During her secondment to MEDISEN within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie NANOEMCA project, Professor Eugenia Eftimie TOTU met with the representatives of the Department of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, from the Necmettin Erbakan University (NEU), including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasan KÜÇÜKKENDIRCI and Professor Yasemin DURDURAN, presenting the project, its cooperation with Turkish researchers, and the key role of public health as a stakeholder in aligning medical and biomedical outcomes with harmonized health guidelines, while confirming the shared commitment of NEU and POLITEHNICA Bucharest to strengthen interdisciplinary cooperation in nanomaterials, biomedical applications, environmental health, public health policy, and future joint scientific activities.
As part of the NANOEMCA project secondment activities, researchers from the partner institutions participated in a scientific visit hosted by CNRS, France. During the visit, PhD researcher Gianina Gabriela Hirjanu (Oprea) and Prof. Paula Vera Estacho from the University of Zaragoza had the opportunity to explore advanced research facilities, including the Solid-State NMR laboratory and the REMAN laboratory. The programme also included attendance at scientific presentations delivered by fellow researchers, fostering knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration, and discussions on recent advances in materials science and nanotechnology. These activities contribute to strengthening international cooperation and supporting the objectives of the NanoEMCA project.
On 12 June 2026, two researchers from the University of Pamplona team and CNRS team, hosted by Politehnica University of Bucharest as part of the NANOEMCA project, visited the National Institute for Laser, Plasma and Radiation Physics (INFLPR) (Măgurele, Bucharest).
Students, PhD students and professors from POLITEHNICA University, researchers and seconded researchers at MGM, and researchers from Romanian Institutes attended a seminar delivered by Dr. Ahmed Malek Djaballah from CNRS, France, focusing on advanced photocatalytic nanomaterials for environmental remediation, biomass valorization, and green hydrogen production.
During the June 2026 secondment to MEDISEN, Professor Eugenia Eftimie TOTU, representative of the NANOEMCA Coordinator, POLITEHNICA Bucharest, visited the Faculty of Engineering of NEU, where she was warmly welcomed by the Dean, Professor Savaş DURDURAN, and presented the MSCA Staff Exchanges project NANOEMCA, its main work packages, and the valuable cooperation with Turkish researchers and MEDISEN partners.
The researchers Associate Professor Luz Karime Hernandez Gegen from University of Pamplona and Dr. Ahmed Malek Djaballah from CNRS in secondment at POLITEHNICA Bucharest, Romania conducted a technical visit to MGM Star Construct Company, where we were warmly welcomed by the Technical Director, Dr. Arcadie Sobetkii. The visit provided valuable insight into the company’s expertise in advanced coating technologies and surface engineering solutions.
In June 2026, Professor Eugenia Totu began her NANOEMCA secondment at MEDISEN. On this occasion, she visited the “Bilim ve Teknoloji Araştırma ve Uygulama Merkezi (BİTAM)” (Science and Technology Research and Application Center), belonging to the Necmettin Erbakan Üniversitesi in Konya, Turkey, where she explored the research infrastructure and discussed future knowledge exchange, joint research activities, and cooperation opportunities with the BITAM leadership and scientific team.
A scientific and technical meeting within the framework of the NANOEMCA project was held at National University of Science and Technology Politehnica Bucharest with the participation of academic researchers, industrial partners, and international secondment researchers from Colombia, France, and Romania.
On 14 May 2026, two researchers from the Turkish partner team MEDISEN, hosted by Politehnica University of Bucharest as part of the NANOEMCA project, visited the “Ilie Murgulescu" Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Romanian Academy.

During the secondments, one Senior Researcher from University of Zaragoza, Spain, one PhD Student from National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest, Romania and one Technical Staff from BeNe Cercetare, Romania were hosted at the CNRS CEMHTI laboratory, where they received an introduction to the laboratory’s research environment, facilities, and ongoing activities.
On April 30, 2026, three young researchers from turkish team of MEDISEN hosted by POLITEHNICA Bucharest team in the NANOEMCA project had the opportunity to visit one of the most important romanian research institute - National Institute for Research and Development for Industrial Ecology – ECOIND from Bucharest.
On Thursday 23 April 2026, the international researchers MSc. Selim ISILDAK, Assist. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Ihsan OZGUN, and BSc. Ensar KANAT, from the Turkish company the Medikal Teknolojiler Araştırma Geliştirme Sanayi Ticaret Limited Şirketi (MEDISEN) in secondment to POLITEHNICA Bucharest participated to a field trip to KEMCRISTAL at Fundulea City, Călărași County, ROMANIA. The KEMCRISTAL is one Romanian company with a long experience in the manufacturing and marketing of chemical reagents for water treatment for the purpose of drinking, for purification of wastewater or water from various industries (paper industry, food industry, cosmetics industry, oil industry).
On Thursday 24 April 2026, the international researchers MSc. Selim ISILDAK, Assist. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Ihsan OZGUN, and BSc. Ensar KANAT, from the Turkish company the Medikal Teknolojiler Araştırma Geliştirme Sanayi Ticaret Limited Şirketi (MEDISEN) in secondment to POLITEHNICA Bucharest visited ROSU Water Treatment Plant together with fourth year students specializing in Environmental Engineering. The visit has been organized by Prof. Dr. Simina Stefan and Lecturer Dr. Madelene Dancila from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnologies. By participating to this activity, the turkish researchers have been familiarized with the main components of a water treatment plant and it was also possible to witness some water treatment stages (e.g. decantation, filtration).
Within the scope of the project, and as part of the secondment’s activity planned for 27 April 2026, the turkish researchers visited the Palas Water Treatment Station and Constanta Nord Wastewater Treatment Plant together with 3rd and 4th year students from the Engineering and Environmental Protection in the Chemical and Petrochemical Industry specialization, in the field of Environmental Engineering and 4th year Biotechnologies in the field of Applied Engineering Sciences. During the visit, they learned how water and wastewater are purified through a series of physical, chemical and biological treatment processes at the industrial level. The visit has been organized by Prof. Dr. Simina Stefan, Lecturer Dr. Madelene Dancila and Lecturer Oanamari Orbulet from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnologies.

Student Elisa-Gabriela (DUMBRAVĂ) BROASCĂ. The purpose of this interdisciplinary secondment is to facilitate an exchange of research and knowledge transfer. The PhD Student Elisa-Gabriela (DUMBRAVĂ) BROASCĂ from POLITEHNICA Bucharest will gain skills to characterize new materials for different purposes, will learn new techniques and will be exposed to different expertise.
On January 14, 2026, a meeting of the consortia of two MSCA Staff Exhanges projects took place at the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest.
Three PhD Students from National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest (POLITEHNICA), Romania and one Senior Researcher from University of Zaragoza, Spain (UNIZAR) will participate in secondments between March and June 2026 at the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) - Extreme Conditions and Materials: High Temperature and Irradiation (CEMHTI) in Orléans, France. During the secondment period they will acquire knowledge and skills in the characterization of organic compounds, complexes and nanomaterials by using modern techniques and equipment from CNRS.
